Where service to the elderly
begins by being a friend

This contest provides funding for our Thanksgiving and Christmas Day dinners and our Christmas Gift Boxes.  Our holiday parties are for anyone 60 and older who would otherwise be alone on these holidays.  The meals are prepared from scratch, from peeling the white and sweet potatoes, to cooking more than 60 turkeys (baked in the kitchen of Michigan Tech's Wadsworth Hall) to homemade desserts and pies.  For the homebound we package the same meal and recurit a volunteer to deliver the meal and stay for a visit.

There are no income qualifications and we provide transportation as requested.  We expect more than 300 seated guest and more than half will be transported by our volunteer drivers, and we'll send out more than 300 meals to the homebound.

We also operate programs year-round.  Firewood cuttinmg, Friendly Visiting, Medical Transportation in Houghton and Keweenaw Counties,  transportation to the regional medical center in Marquette, Grocery Shopping,  Scott's Matinee,  and Toddler Teas  round out our services.

All of these services are provided at no charge to our elderly friends.  Fundraisers like these provide a large percentage of the funding for our programs.
